Day 42 (02/23/13) Living in NYC

Saturday, February 23, 2013

We started a day with donuts and a latte from Doughnut Plant in Chelsea.  I had a matcha green tea doughnut.   Then, we went to Century 21 downtown.  They have changed the layout of the store and moved most of the men’s items to the second floor.  I didn’t buy anything.

There were some schedule changes on the subway and we ended up getting off at the Canal Street station in Chinatown and we walked to the Meatball Shop though SOHO.  We got lucky and didn’t have to wait for a table at the restaurant at all when we arrived around 1 PM.  I had spicy pork meatballs with a spicy sauce.  It was not that spicy, in my opinion.  For dessert, we had an ice cream sandwich with their Mexican chocolate ice cream.  I found the ice cream too spicy – a bit too much cayenne pepper.

After lunch, I wanted to try a Swedish latte at Konditori around the corner from the Meatball Shop but their coffee grinder was broken.  So no latte for me.

We took a bus back home and rested for a few hours.  Then, we went to get half price tickets at the TKTS in Times Square.  Before dinner, we stopped by at a wine bar for a glass of wine.  For dinner, we were going to try a new place for Thai food called Pure Thai Cookhouse but the line was too long, so we went back to our usual Thai restaurant, Wondee Siam.  Then we went to Studio 54 to watch a musical, the Mystery of Edwin Drood.  Since it was written by Charles Dickens but left unfinished when he died, the audience got to participate in deciding the ending of the musical.
